General Summary

The Security Officer is often the first and last hospital employee interacting with the public. Working under the direction of the Lead Officer in Charge, the Security Officer is responsible for patrolling assigned areas, observing signs of unauthorized entry, and ensuring safety within and around the facility. The Security Officer will take instructions from the Lead Officer and respond to all orders given by legitimate authorities of St.Mary

Hospital, provided they do not violate the law or place another person in danger. The Security Officer will always demonstrate excellent public relations and social skills to all persons encountered.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas and observe for signs of unauthorized entry or safety compromises.
  • Respond to instructions from the Lead Officer and legitimate authorities.
  • Maintain public relations and social skills in all interactions.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, rules, and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Six to twelve months related experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred.
  • Military Police, professional Police Officer training, or certification desirable.
  • Previous security experience (Police, Military, Security) desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare security functions desirable.
  • Leadership abilities and personable, polite, helpful demeanor.
  • Good verbal skills and ability to function professionally under stressful circumstances with upset or confused persons.
  • CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Modified CPI training within 6 months of hire.
