Administrator Of Public Safety
Livonia Public Schools is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly qualified Administrator of Public Safety to lead and enhance the District's comprehensive school safety and security initiatives. Working closely with District leadership, the Administrator of Public Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving policies, procedures, emergency preparedness plans, and best practices that promote safe, secure, and welcoming learning and working environments for all students, staff, and visitors.
The Administrator of Public Safety serves as a key member of the District's administrative leadership team, fostering strong partnerships with school administrators, local public safety agencies, and community stakeholders to support prevention, preparedness, response, and after-action efforts. In collaboration with the Human Resources Department, the Administrator also conducts and supports internal investigations, ensuring they are carried out professionally, thoroughly, and in accordance with District policies and applicable laws.
The Administrator of Public Safety demonstrates a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments. The Administrator serves as the District's lead administrator for school safety, security, emergency preparedness, and public safety initiatives, fostering safe, secure, and welcoming learning and working environments for all students, staff, and visitors. The Administrator collaborates closely with the Superintendent, District Cabinet, Administrative Leadership Team (ALT), Director of Human Resources, and building administrators to develop and implement comprehensive safety and security strategies.
The Administrator maintains the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all personnel, investigative, and safety-related matters.
The Administrator develops, implements, monitors, and annually reviews the District's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Crisis Response protocols, and related emergency management procedures for all District facilities and programs, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and local requirements and recognized best practices. The Administrator leads district wide emergency preparedness efforts, including planning, training, tabletop exercises, drills, and after-action reviews designed to strengthen organizational readiness and continuous improvement.
The Administrator plans, develops, and delivers professional learning for administrators, staff, and other stakeholders on school safety, emergency response, crisis management, threat prevention, and security procedures. The Administrator provides consultation, guidance, and technical assistance to school administrators regarding safety, security, emergency response, student discipline matters, and crisis situations.
The Administrator serves as chairperson of the District Safety Committee and the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Committee, coordinating initiatives that promote prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Administrator conducts or coordinates internal investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, and other personnel matters in collaboration with Human Resources, preparing thorough documentation and investigative reports. The Administrator conducts investigations related to serious student misconduct in partnership with school and District administrators, as appropriate.
The Administrator serves as a member of the District's Title IX investigative team, conducting investigations in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and District procedures. The Administrator coordinates with the Information Technology Department to oversee District video surveillance systems, including the secure preservation and management of video evidence when necessary. The Administrator develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, school safety personnel, and other community partners to support coordinated emergency planning and response.
The Administrator oversees the administration and compliance of criminal history background check processes, including the ICHAT database, fingerprinting requirements, and Law Enforcement Information Network Agency Security Officer (LASO) responsibilities. The Administrator maintains current knowledge of emerging trends, legislation, and best practices in school safety, emergency management, investigations, and public safety through ongoing professional learning. The Administrator prepares reports, recommendations, and presentations related to school safety, security, compliance, investigations, and emergency preparedness for District leadership and the Board of Education, as requested.
The Administrator performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
