Lead Locate Technician

The Lead Technician is responsible for leading a team of assigned employees and maintaining and protecting their area of coverage while following company policies and safety regulations. The position involves accurately locating underground facilities (telephone, electric, cable, gas, fiber optics, water, sewer lines, etc.) and assisting the team to accomplish these goals. The Lead Technician also ensures compliance with client and state requirements, observes, marks and documents utility locations, and verifies locations for utility customers.

• Oversee daily scheduling of contractors and sub‑contractors
• Route tickets to ensure optimized efficiency
• Develop a game plan to achieve daily production targets and provide assistance as needed
• Review prior day’s documents and reports, and daily expectations and safety messages
• Audit documents to ensure compliance with client regulations
• Establish client quality assurance and resolve any problems
• Ensure all team members’ timesheets are correct and that team members are accounted for
• Locate underground facilities using transmitter equipment and underground or surface installations
• Work in various terrains and weather conditions, including construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas
• Interpret job order tickets, blueprints and maps for efficient routing and execution
• Perform locates and emergency/on‑call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as required
• Provide professional, efficient service while communicating with customers, co‑employees and third parties
• Maintain knowledge of technology and tools needed and work collaboratively within a supervised team environment
• Communicate with management team, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage‑free environment

• High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
• Multiple years of utility locating experience
• Excellent documentation quality ratio within the industry
• Proficiency with multiple types of utility locating equipment
• Strong problem‑solving ability
• Ability to read, interpret and decipher multiple types of prints
• Experience with vacuum truck operations (A+)
• Physical ability to lift over 50 lbs and walk/stand for multiple hours a day
• Excellent communication skills
• Pass a background screening (no violations within the last three years)
• Pass a DOT drug test
