Job Description:
The Industrial Automation Machine Builder builds, assembles, installs, and troubleshoots custom industrial automation equipment and machinery. This hands-on role interprets mechanical drawings, pneumatic schematics, and basic electrical diagrams to complete machine builds from assembly through final setup and testing.
Key Responsibilities:- Build and assemble custom industrial machinery according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Install conveyors, lift tables, rotary systems, fixtures, guarding, and material-handling equipment.
- Assemble bearings, shafts, gears, motors, chains, belts, couplings, and actuators.
- Install pneumatic tubing, hoses, valves, regulators, cylinders, and related components.
- Perform basic electrical wiring and termination according to approved drawings.
- Align, level, fit, and adjust equipment to meet dimensions and operating requirements.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues during assembly and startup.
- Identify drawing discrepancies, missing components, and assembly concerns; communicate with Engineering and supervision.
- Collaborate with engineers, electricians, controls technicians, and other skilled trades.
- Follow safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and quality standards; maintain an organized work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Pre-employment
Qualifications:
Pass pre-employment drug screen and acceptable background check results, including criminal history.
Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field preferred. Three (3) or more years of industrial mechanical assembly, machine building, automation, or related skilled trades experience preferred.
Language
Skills:
Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings and communicate effectively with Engineering and other skilled trades.
Reasoning Ability:Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently from drawings, identify assembly issues, and determine corrective actions with attention to detail and quality.
Computer Knowledge and
Skills:
Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, pneumatic schematics, and basic electrical wiring diagrams. Knowledge of pneumatic systems and mechanical drives; skilled with hand and power tools, precision measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment. Basic computer skills for drawings, work instructions, and reporting.
