General
Summary:
Under direction, assists in the implementation of housing programs for people experiencing homelessness. Facilitates prioritization and referrals of clients and ensures access and assessment for housing services and resources.
- Develops, implements, monitors and coordinates implementation of the goals and objectives of Macomb Community Action’s (MCA) housing programs.
- Communicates and interacts professionally with people in crisis.
- Completes referrals based on prioritization, eligibility and client choice to all available community housing resources.
- Oversees and maintains the Housing Choice Voucher Homeless Preference waiting list.
- Observes, supervises and evaluates housing resources staff and operations.
- Provides coaching and training to staff on best practices with strength-based case management, progressive engagement and trauma-informed care.
- Collaborates with community partners, housing providers and human services agencies.
- Compiles necessary data and generates required reporting.
- Completes and maintains all required documentation, including client files and program records.
- Ensures monitoring and compliance of all state and federal applicable policies and regulations.
- Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Public Administration, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in human services, community services, or housing services.
Education and Experience
- Experience advocating for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
- Experience working with state and/or federal housing resources programs.
- Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel.
- Housing program requirements and eligibility criteria.
- Housing resources guiding principles of housing first, strengths-based case management, progressive engagement, trauma-informed care and fair housing.
- Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
- Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with clients, staff, community partners, other agencies and the public.
- Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring and reviewing work assignments.
- Working with diverse populations.
- Effective communication skills.
- Plan, organize, implement and evaluate programs and services.
- Provide supervision and direction.
- Research and utilize community resources.
- Work in an environment which embraces the county’s Dignity Campaign.
- Effectively speak, write and understand the English language.
- Effectively speak, write and understand a language other than English is preferred.
- Understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
- Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files.
