What You’ll Do
AAA Life Insurance Company is seeking a highly skilled and technically strong Engineering Team Lead to serve as the go-to technical coach, solution designer, and daily mentor within our agile product delivery teams. This is a player-coach role focused on guiding engineers, shaping solutions, enforcing technical best practices, and ensuring delivery quality, without direct people management responsibilities
The ideal candidate will possess deep software engineering expertise, a passion for quality, and the leadership presence to influence and elevate others around them. This individual will be critical in driving forward our modernization efforts, improving team execution, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Lead by example in technical execution, architecture decisions, and quality standards across backend, frontend, and integration work streams.
- Serve as technical mentor and daily coach to a cross-functional team of engineers, offering code reviews, architectural guidance, and hands-on support.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, QA, and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions that are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
- Act as a bridge between architecture and delivery, helping to implement future-state patterns and decompose legacy systems.
- Establish and reinforce engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and secure coding.
- Identify and escalate technical blockers and risks early, proposing options and tradeoffs.
- Participate in solutioning sessions, backlog refinement, and sprint planning as a technical authority and delivery advocate.
- Contribute actively to the engineering community of practice at AAA Life, helping elevate coding standards and shared knowledge.
Basic Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or senior engineer role.
- Strong expertise in modern development frameworks and platforms (Java, .NET, Spring Boot, React/Angular, REST APIs, cloud-native).
- Familiarity with agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban), Dev Ops, and modern CI/CD tool chains (Git Hub, Jenkins, Azure Dev Ops).
- Proven ability to lead through influence, drive decision-making, and mentor peers without formal authority.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems and integrating with enterprise platforms (e.g., FAST, Guidewire, or similar) is a plus.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred past experience in Insurance or Finance Industry.
- Experience in managing the technical contributions of third-party vendors.
