Job Summary
The Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) provides direct patient care to elderly residents in a healthcare or long-term care setting. This role supports nursing staff in delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality care while maintaining patient dignity and comfort.
?Key Responsibilities
Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)
Help with mobility, transfers, and positioning of patients
Respond promptly to call lights and resident needs
Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient environments
Assist with feeding and hydration as needed
Observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff
Follow infection control and safety procedures
Work Schedule & Attendance
Full-time or part-time shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours, including weekends/holidays)
Reliable attendance is essential due to patient care needs
Overtime or extended shifts may be required
Employees must report to work on time and remain until properly relieved
Workplace Policies
No personal phones allowed in designated patient care areas
Photography or recording on units is strictly prohibited
Must follow all facility safety and confidentiality policies
Qualifications
Active GNA certification (state-approved)
High school diploma or equivalent
Current CPR certification preferred
Ability to lift/move patients (may require 50+ lbs assistance)
Required Skills
Compassion and patience with elderly patients
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Attention to detail and reliability
Ability to handle physically demanding tasks
Compliance Requirements
Adhere to patient privacy laws under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Follow all infection control and healthcare regulations
Maintain professional conduct at all times
Physical Requirements
Standing, walking, bending for long periods
Lifting, transferring, and repositioning patients
Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
