Job Summary

The Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) provides direct patient care to elderly residents in a healthcare or long-term care setting. This role supports nursing staff in delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality care while maintaining patient dignity and comfort.

• Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting

• Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure)

• Help with mobility, transfers, and positioning of patients

• Respond promptly to call lights and resident needs

• Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient environments

• Assist with feeding and hydration as needed

• Observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff

• Follow infection control and safety procedures

• Full-time or part-time shifts (8, 10, or 12 hours, including weekends/holidays)

• Reliable attendance is essential due to patient care needs

• Overtime or extended shifts may be required

• Employees must report to work on time and remain until properly relieved

• No personal phones allowed in designated patient care areas

• Photography or recording on units is strictly prohibited

• Must follow all facility safety and confidentiality policies

• Active GNA certification (state-approved)

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Current CPR certification preferred

• Ability to lift/move patients (may require 50+ lbs assistance)

• Compassion and patience with elderly patients

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Attention to detail and reliability

• Ability to handle physically demanding tasks

• Adhere to patient privacy laws under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

• Follow all infection control and healthcare regulations

• Maintain professional conduct at all times

• Standing, walking, bending for long periods

• Lifting, transferring, and repositioning patients

• Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
