Job Summary

Provides direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers in the outpatient setting. Functions as an integral member of the health care team under the direction of the provider.

• Obtain and document the patient’s reason for visit, weight, vital signs, visit screening information, medication review, and pertinent information for the provider using the electronic medical record.
• Prepare and set up examination and treatment rooms between cases.
• Assist patients as needed for visit preparation, ensuring safety and privacy.
• Perform direct patient care tasks such as EKGs, wound dressings, and support during minor surgical procedures and ancillary examinations.
• Prepare and administer medications according to policy and procedure after validation of knowledge and competency (may not administer intravenous medications).
• Complete patient tests and treatments per provider’s order according to policy, procedure, and competency.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform phlebotomy, and complete associated paperwork.
• Perform receptionist and clerical duties: match and file ancillary department reports, facilitate appointments, complete referrals and pre‑authorizations, collect co‑payments.
• Assist with orientation of new personnel, document ongoing patient communication, and prioritize communications to the provider.
• Inventory medical/surgical supplies, non‑controlled pharmaceuticals and transport non‑controlled medications as needed.
• Prepare and clean instruments; follow sterilization and disinfection protocols.
• Inspect diagnostic equipment and instrumentation for proper operation and identify maintenance needs.
• Actively participate in patient safety and quality improvement programs.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required.
• Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – Required.
• Certification by one of the following governing associations: NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA.
• Minimum of 1 year of related work experience – Preferred.
• Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months.
• Strong communication, customer service, multitasking, and teamwork skills.
