Serve as district attendance intervention specialist to provide assistance to campus personnel in interpreting and enforcing compulsory attendance laws, resolving truancy, excessive absences, and tardiness problems, and serve as district liaison to parents, law enforcement agencies, and court personnel.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- Knowledge of state compulsory attendance laws
- Ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate a personal computer to develop databases and do word processing
- Ability to travel district-wide to conduct home visits and visit sites where truant students have been reported to the district
- Two years working in compliance, law enforcement, or with children or adults in a leadership role
- Investigate cases of unexcused and excessive absences and tardies, enforce provisions of compulsory attendance laws
- Issue warnings; file complaints against students, parents, or individuals with parental control in accordance with compulsory attendance laws, Texas Education Code, and board policy; refer to appropriate court
- Interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to parents and students
- Represent the school district in court hearings resulting from attendance problems
- Investigate cases of suspected dropout; retrieve textbooks and school property
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with co-workers and supervisors
- Schedule and carry out home visits; work flexible hours including late hours to conduct home visits and assist with parent meetings
- Attend program specific training sessions
- Complete other special assignments, projects, or duties assigned by Supervisor
- Maintains positive and productive working relationships with others
- Maintains proper standards of conduct and appearance
- Exhibits positive attitude and enthusiasm in performance of duties
- Shows interest in self‑improvement and developing knowledge and skills
- Demonstrates emotional maturity, tact, and discretion in dealing with others
- Responds constructively to supervision and guidelines
- Follows all attendance and punctuality rules
- Schedule and carries out home visits
- Can work flexible hours including late hours to conduct home visits and assist with parent meetings
- Attend program specific training sessions
