Job Description
Assists the Project Engineer as the technical source of information for the project. Responds to questions about drawings, specifications, shop drawings and change orders, assists in writing change orders, RFLs, meeting minutes, and reviewing submittals. Maintains an effective and professional working relationship with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers. This position includes three steps (I, II, Senior), outlining a progression of skill and experience;
Step I is the entry level for individuals with a minimum of experience in this position.
- Develop and maintain as‑built drawings and assist in or review and process submittals, change orders, RFLs, and budget forecasting. Ensure timely production and proper archiving of meeting agendas, RFLs, and daily reports.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the project management plan (PMP) and participate in the support and execution of the plan. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the change management process and perform project scope activities to support the project team in ensuring successful completion.
- Ensure the administration of the project quality management plan and reinforce a culture of safety throughout the project.
- May assist in the calculation of daily production rates and unit costs for self‑performed work. Participate in risk management including identification, analysis, response planning, monitoring, and control. Demonstrate competency in understanding environmental control processes and take corrective actions when necessary.
- May oversee/manage BIM coordination between subcontractors and designers.
- May document and submit LEED certification materials and create/update Digital Record Drawings (ORD).
- May provide lines, grades and layout as required, maintaining an organized logbook.
- May provide weekly quantities: maintain accurate quantity logs and report quantities in compliance with the cost control manual. Perform budgeting and cost control elements to keep the project within the approved budget; demonstrate business acumen within the area of responsibility (not all Field Engineers track quantities).
- Provide support to superintendents required for execution of the work and assist in resolving field problems as necessary.
Job Requirements
- Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others is essential.
- Entry‑level position normally requires a four‑year construction‑related degree or equivalent technical/field experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment: steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard‑hat, vest, etc.
- May reach above shoulder height and below the waist frequently.
- May stoop, kneel or bend occasionally.
- May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices on a limited basis to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, etc.
- Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently.
- Will interact with people frequently during the shift/workday.
- Will lift, push or pull objects occasionally.
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for the entire duration of a shift/workday.
