POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direct supervision of a licensed special education teacher, the paraprofessional will work with students in the classroom to meet instructional goals and objectives. This may include academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support. The individual will work Monday-Friday when school is in session. Initially, the position's work hours will be 8:15am until 12:15pm; in April, work hours will expand to 8:15am until 3:25pm.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Illinois Paraprofessional License (PEL)
  • Experience working with students, especially students with disabilities
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with diverse teams and families
  • Knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies, behavior management systems, and technology tools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrate support for the mission, beliefs, and goals of Lockport SD 91
  • Assist the licensed teacher in the design and delivery of specialized instruction based on students' IEP goals in areas such as reading, writing, math, communication, behavior, and life skills
  • Adapt curriculum and instruction to meet a wide range of student needs using evidence-based practices and technology
  • Assist the licensed teacher in developing and implementing individualized behavior supports, sensory strategies, and classroom management techniques to support student engagement and regulation
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, and service providers to ensure a cohesive educational experience for each student
  • Provide direct instruction in both academic and functional domains, including social skills, daily living skills, and communication, as appropriate
  • Regularly assess and document student progress and adjust instruction under the direction of the licensed teacher
  • Participate in training and support activities
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and successful
  • Accepts other responsibilities and relevant duties that may be assigned by the classroom teacher or administration
