Title of Position: School Principal - Aaron Mossell Junior High School

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Next Generation Learning Standards and NY state assessments
  • The ability and commitment to use technology as an instructional tool
  • Strong understanding of the Science of Reading and Science of Mathematics
  • Uncompromising commitment to continuous improvement
  • Broad experience with a variety of instructional techniques
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for accelerated and delayed learners
  • Evidence of strong classroom management skills with age‑appropriate experiences
  • Strong understanding of district and state policies and regulations
  • Strong understanding of special education and the MTSS processes
  • Flexibility, enthusiasm, creativity, and willingness to develop programs and collaborate with and support other staff
  • Loyalty and evidence of being a team player
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion of all members of the school community
Requirements
  • NY State School Building Leader certification or equivalent
  • Earned Master’s Degree
  • Current applicable New York State administrative certification
  • Prior successful experience in leadership roles at the elementary level (strongly preferred)

Responsibilities

Academic and Instructional

  • Foster an uncompromising commitment to increasing student achievement and the graduation rate with an emphasis on college and career readiness
  • Provide instructional leadership, coaching, and support to teachers working with a diverse student body
  • Ensure the use of a wide variety of assessments that reflect the educational philosophy of the district and prepare students to excel on state assessment measures
  • Facilitate execution of the standards‑based curriculum with an emphasis on technology integration
  • Lead the data analysis and planning process and educational programming
  • Possess a clear understanding of special education and English Language Learner regulations

School Culture and Community

  • Define and build a transformative school culture consistent with the District’s Strategic Plan for Continuous Improvement and School Comprehensive Education Plan
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all members of the community to accomplish district goals
  • Support implementation of alternative and innovative methods of assisting students in meeting expectations
  • Use a progressive approach to conflict resolution and student discipline
  • Communicate the district’s vision and goals
  • Promote diversity and inclusion through experiences, interactions, and activities
  • Use multiple data sources to assess student performance and plan instruction

Operations, Finance, and Compliance

  • Manage and support school operations staff
  • Report on activities, organizational development progress, and student achievement
  • Monitor the school’s budget and ensure daily financial and business activities comply with the district’s fiscal policies
  • Ensure alignment with organizational goals for diversity
