General Scope of the Job

The Operations and Maintenance Supervisor will provide direction and supervision for Combustion Turbine Specialists Levels III-V. The CTS is a broad-band position that consists of four core skillsets: operations, electrician, mechanic, and technician. All CTS employees are expected to broaden their skillset and develop and work into the other skillsets. The CTS operates, controls, and maintains mechanical and electrical equipment at the Combustion Turbine Facilities.

Experience with computer applications, especially word processing, spreadsheet applications, and basic understanding of chemistry, hydraulics, electricity, and mathematics is required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, control, and accurately maintain mechanical and electrical equipment at Combustion Turbine Facilities.
  • Operate forklifts, bucket trucks, aerial lifts, agency vehicles, and other equipment; a valid California Class C driver’s license is required.
  • Use computer applications, especially computerized maintenance management systems, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Identify problems or trends with systems and equipment early to prevent failures, and confer with Operations and Maintenance Supervisors to resolve issues and report status.
  • Work efficiently and effectively on turbine generator units and auxiliary equipment, accounting for all aspects of the job at all NCPA Combustion Turbine facilities.
  • Provide relief coverage on relief shifts and perform maintenance duties during dayshift periods; may be assigned special projects and assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Operations and Maintenance Supervisors.

Typical Physical Demands

  • Regularly talk and listen to others to exchange information and direct operation and control.
  • Regularly sit at computer and control center reading displays and inputting data.
  • Regularly watch and monitor data on computer displays requiring close vision and depth perception.
  • Regularly climb ladders and walk on platforms near high temperature surfaces; work on slippery or uneven surfaces in precarious places.
  • Regularly lift and dump fifty-pound loads of chemicals in chemical tanks.
  • Frequently walk, reach, kneel and crouch using feet, legs, hands, and manual strength to inspect and make emergency adjustments.
  • Work rotating shift schedule; work overtime as needed.
  • Occasionally operate forklifts, boom truck, and related equipment.
  • Frequently operate agency vehicles to and from job locations.

  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues.

Educational, Training and Experience Requirements

Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills is qualifying for the entry level step.

A typical qualification includes: one (1) year of experience operating or repairing and maintaining equipment in a Power Generation facility, heavy industrial facility, or related military experience; or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent coursework in a related area.

Driver’s License Requirement

  • Possession of a valid California Class “C” license with no limitations issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Maintain a good driving record with no multiple or serious traffic violations or accidents within the last three (3) years.
