Sign Language Interpreter Educational (ASL) 26-27
The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trained professional who facilitates communication between deaf or hard‑of‑hearing students and others within an educational setting. Often, American Sign Language (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction, activities and learning discussions.
Qualifications- Proficiency in American Sign Language
- Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in interpreting, deaf studies, or related field (preferred)
- State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (where applicable)
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (where applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
- Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (where applicable per state regulation or client requirement)
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
- Current CPR certification if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
