Description

Under general supervision, operates a wide variety of small to medium sized motorized equipment and other various pieces of machinery in a variety of activities including parks maintenance and construction, trail maintenance and construction, and performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks.

Qualifications
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years previous construction experience is preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License within one year of employment.
  • Must be skilled in the efficient and safe operation of assigned equipment and in performing skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Must be in good physical condition to perform moderately heavy physical activity to lift at least fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to get in and out of vehicles repeatedly.

Responsibilities
  • Performs a variety of journey level concrete work to construct sidewalks, trails, footings, walls and slabs.
  • Performs journey level carpentry work to construct/remodel/repair park facilities.
  • Installs and inspects playgrounds and other park amenities.
  • Removes snow.
  • Assembles ice rink.
  • Trims/removes trees and assembles/erects pavilions.
  • Operates backhoe/loader, dump truck, crew truck, skid steer, toolcat, roller, trencher, 4-wheeler, side dump, tractors, mini excavator, and other equipment for construction, maintenance and repair of parks, trails, and other city facilities.
  • Works with construction materials such as lumber, concrete, asphalt, gravel, sand, topsoil, and rock.
  • Constructs forms for concrete placement.
  • Performs work under hazardous conditions and adverse weather conditions.
  • Operates small and medium-sized equipment such as blowers, cement saws, chain saws, jumping jack, plate compactor, string trimmer, drill, impact drive, saw, transit level and pressure washer.
  • Performs minor repairs on equipment and reports the need for major repairs.
  • Checks and adjusts fluid levels.
  • Grease and lubricates moving parts as required.
  • Handles and transports fuel.
  • Removes and transports refuse and debris to appropriate dumping site.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the functions, operating methods, and care required for a wide variety of small to medium-size motorized construction, maintenance and automotive equipment.
  • Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety precautions for equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations and safe operating characteristics.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations relating to the operation of assigned equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, and construction processes.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
  • Knowledge of traffic control and work zone standards.
  • Skill in the efficient and safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Skill in performing skilled and semi-skilled construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Skill in general motorized and non-motorized equipment maintenance.
  • Skill in reading maps, drawings and construction plans.
