Mary Logan High School (MLHS) is an optional education high school program serving students ages 16–21 within the John
A. Logan College district. MLHS provides full-time and supplementary academic services designed to support student achievement, retention, and high school diploma completion.
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Instructor to join our full-time optional education program. The selected candidate will be responsible for instructing students using state standard-aligned curriculum, providing them with the knowledge, skills, and creative experience needed to become successful, contributing citizens in an ever-changing world.

Non-traditional high school students (ages 16–21)
Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, content‑specific area, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience and demonstrated ability in developing and implementing course curricula.

Student Engagement: Seeking candidates who are motivated to support non‑traditional high school students, with a focus on student retention and high school diploma completion.
Responsibilities- Deliver engaging art instruction aligned with state curriculum standards
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity, self-expression, and artistic growth
- Adapt lessons to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of students
- Promote positive student engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking through artistic exploration
- Support the academic and personal development of students in alignment with MLHS’s mission
- Plan and instruct students on state standards-aligned curriculum.
- Develop lesson plans and goals that meet program expectations.
- Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials, and resources as needed to meet individual students’ needs and varying levels of progress.
- Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress. Interpret student assessment data for application of instructional methods and monitoring of student progress.
- Review student progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing with parents and students on progress.
- Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other departmental teachers and support teachers to plan instruction across classrooms and to incorporate lessons across subjects.
- Meet regularly with team members to discuss individual students’ modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions, or problems. Work collaboratively to ensure individual students’ needs are met.
- Assign work, instructions, or lessons to student teachers and/or volunteers. Assess work, modify, and provide regular feedback.
- Set clear expectations for class and manage the classroom and school environment by applying positive behavior supports and interventions as needed.
- Collaborate with other staff in planning, modifying, enhancing, and implementing curriculum and program objectives.
- Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Act as a role model by encouraging appropriate behaviors that lead to social, emotional, and physical development.
- Enforce and support school policies, philosophies, and objectives with students and parents.
- Participate in staff development and school improvement activities to maintain professional growth.
- Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
- Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled workday, such as orientation, open houses, or conferences.
Other duties as assigned. Duties must be performed on the John
A. Logan College campus or designated location.
