The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a Lecturer faculty position. This position is non-tenure-track, with a nine-month (academic year) appointment at USU’s main campus in Logan, UT with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026. Preferred applicants will have already obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry or Biochemistry. Applicants with an M.S. in Chemistry or Biochemistry coupled with significant teaching and/or lab management experience may also be considered.

The primary responsibilities will be managing the department’s general chemistry (1125, 1215, 1225) laboratory courses and developing new ways for delivering these courses around the state of Utah. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence (90%), along with effective contributions to university service (10%). Application reviews will begin on November 15,2025 and will continue until the position is filled.

This full-time position is non-tenure-track, with a nine-month (academic year) appointment and a 90:10 division of effort between teaching and service. The primary responsibilities will be managing the department’s general chemistry (1125, 1215, 1225) laboratory courses and developing new ways for delivering these courses around the state of Utah. The duties will span instruction; TA training, mentoring, and supervision; and overall management of the laboratory program.

Preferred applicants will demonstrate a commitment to implementing innovative approaches to laboratory instruction to better serve students across the state. The successful candidate will:

  • Oversee laboratory safety, including maintaining required documentation, serving as the primary safety responder, and coordinating hazardous waste disposal with the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) office
  • Purchase, prepare, and organize reagents, equipment, and stock solutions for laboratory courses
  • Maintain lab supplies, equipment, and facilities in coordination with departmental technicians
  • Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment and repair lab equipment in conjunction with departmental technicians
  • Maintain high standards of safety and instruction in laboratory courses through oversight and training of students and teaching assistants
  • Supervise TAs and conduct end-of-course student evaluations of TA performance
  • Maintain the security of the laboratory rooms
  • Develop new approaches for offering general chemistry laboratory courses to students across the state.

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.S. in chemistry or biochemistry
  • Demonstrated success in teaching and managing undergraduate chemistry laboratory courses.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry
  • Experience with online course management
  • Demonstrated skills in training and managing teaching assistants
  • Ability to implement innovative approaches to laboratory courses
