Salt Lake County 4‑H Garden Intern
Part‑time, non‑benefited, hourly position – $16.00/hr location: US‑UT.
The internship supports the Salt Lake County 4‑H Garden program at the Bastian Agricultural Center in South Jordan, Utah. The intern will assist with garden maintenance, teach youth club lessons, develop educational activities, and engage the community.
Program OverviewThe Salt Lake County 4‑H Junior Master Gardener program offers hands‑on lessons in garden and plant science for youth, covering botany, planting, pest and disease management, pollination, beekeeping, harvesting, and food preservation. The main garden at Bastian Agricultural Center houses 50+ varieties of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, using both conventional and regenerative growth methods. The goal is to inspire youth to grow their own food and explore leadership and career pathways in plant and food science.

- Assist with 4‑H garden maintenance – planting, watering, weeding, pest/disease checks, irrigation monitoring and harvesting.
- Attend and help teach twice‑monthly 4‑H Junior Master Gardener youth club meetings and lessons.
- Plan occasional garden education activities for 4‑H youth.
- Create outreach activities and programs to recruit and strengthen community participation.
- Provide mentorship for 4‑H garden program youth.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the 4‑H Program Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent self‑initiative, reliability and self‑starter skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with gardening or small‑scale agriculture.
- Past experience in 4‑H or a similar youth leadership program, or experience with mentoring or working with youth.
- Experience with community outreach or building community partnerships.
Job offer is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
ADAMust be willing and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and in rough terrain (dirt, gravel, etc.) for an extended period of time. Outdoor work may not be protected from weather conditions and may involve exposure to extreme heat and cold. This position requires moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and squatting.
It requires nearly continuous standing, repetitive hand motions and reaching overhead.
