Extension Research Assistant and Educator

USU Extension currently offers the Utah Diabetes Cook-Along in English throughout the state and virtually. There is a need for similar programming in other languages to meet the needs of the communities we serve. One of these languages is Somali. We are currently looking for someone who is fluent in both English and Somali to assist our research team in conducting initial research to understand the needs, to help modify the curriculum for this new audience, and eventually to help teach the curriculum in communities along the Wasatch front and in Logan.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within the state of Utah.
Responsibilities- Complete online training
- Attend online meetings
- Assist research team in scheduling locations, recruiting participants, collecting informed consent, and collecting data
- Assist research team in organizing required paperwork including data entry and filing
- Travel to meetings, data collection, and education sessions (travel costs will be compensated)
- Assist research team in modifying curriculum
- Assist research team in planning educational series
- Recruit participants to attend classes
- Teach classes
Minimum Qualifications
- Fluent in Somali (spoken and written)
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Valid driver's license to perform essential travel job responsibilities
- Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work site
- Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
- Interest in public health, nutrition, Extension, or other relevant fields
- Community Health Worker Certification
$20-$23/hour, based on experience
ADALight Physical Duty:
This position requires moderate physical effort. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment.
