Business Manager

Overview

The Business Services team in the College of Arts and Sciences (Art Sci) at Utah State University is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Business Manager I to provide support to academic departments within the college. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate the business operations of assigned units including the oversight of activities such as budget preparation and control, personnel processes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and contract and grant accounting.

This position is integral to ensuring smooth operations, sound financial management, and compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. This is a full-time, 40‑hour‑per‑week position.

• Functions as a primary business resource to the Department Head, faculty, and staff in the assigned area.
• Manages daily financial operations for the department, including review and approval of financial transactions such as PCard reconciliation, purchasing, Banner financial activity, and travel processing.
• Coordinates financial aspects of proposals, contracts, grants, etc. Assists staff in administering proposals to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university policies.
• Manages personnel actions such as hiring and EPAF requests and ensures payroll is accurately recorded and processed.
• May train, guide, and mentor business services staff (including students), as assigned.
• Maintains annual budgets for a wide variety of accounts and grants using proper accounting/budgeting methods and retains records of financial figures for comparison with estimated budget.
• Coordinates, design, and implements financial/management systems for a wide variety of programs.
• Verifies scholarship funding and processes graduate assistantships, tuition awards, graduate insurance, and other sources of funding in accordance with university policies and procedures.
• Communicates and coordinates with other departments within and outside USU regarding financial matters.
• Reconciles and reviews financial statements monthly to ensure accuracy.
• Commits to integrity, performs duties with diligence in accordance with professional standards and enforces university policies and procedures.
• Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
• Serves in the interest of Utah State University in a lawful manner while maintaining high standards of conduct and character.
• Handles confidential information and manages projects effectively, demonstrating reliability and a strong work ethic.
• Provides customer service to faculty, staff, and students and campus community in a professional manner.
• Completes annual asset management for assigned units.
• Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in a business field or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Banner, specifically the Finance and HR modules.
• Experience with EZ‑Buy, procurement, and p‑card processing.
• Experience with the Argos Reporting System.
• Experience with Aggie Time and Service Now.
• Experience with Travel processes and procedures at USU.
• Experience working with tuition waivers/scholarship processes at USU.
• Knowledge of USU policies and procedures.

Minimum $50,000; commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits
