Position OverviewThe Mental Health Counselor provides mental health services to students by assessing social and emotional needs, delivering counseling interventions, coordinating support services, and communicating with staff, parents, and outside agencies. This position supports student well-being, assists with crisis intervention, and helps develop plans and services that improve student safety and success.
Key Responsibilities- Advocate for at-risk students by connecting them with community resources and social-emotional support services.
- Conduct individual and group counseling interventions addressing mental health and behavioral needs.
- Develop and implement individualized plans such as Student Success Plans, Behavioral Intervention Plans, and Safety Plans.
- Conduct assessments with parental consent including psychosocial, behavioral, and threat assessments.
- Respond to behavioral crises and provide intervention aligned with student safety plans or IEP requirements.
- Maintain confidential student records, documentation, and reports related to counseling services.
- Provide training to students on topics such as anger management, bullying prevention, gang awareness, and crisis response.
- Connect families with affordable community services and resources.
- Participate in meetings including IEP meetings, departmental meetings, and interdisciplinary planning sessions.
- Prepare documentation including incident reports, behavioral reports, and communication records.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, parents, and students regarding mental health services and supports.
- Participate in training and professional development related to crisis response, student safety, and counseling services.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

ExperienceJob-related experience within a specialized field required.
EducationBachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, or school psychology.
