General Purpose
Under the leadership of the direct supervisor, plan, implement, and evaluate health education activities in the Bear River Health District.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)Health Educator I:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.S. degree in Health Science, Public Health, Community Health, or other closely related field AND 1 year of full time paid professional employment in community or public health; PLUS CHES eligible.
Health Educator II:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.S. degree in Health Science, Public Health, Community Health, or other closely related field; AND 2 years of full-time paid professional employment in community or public health; PLUS CHES eligible.
Substitutions on a year-for-year basis as follows:
Additional graduate study in a public or community health program for the required full-time paid professional employment requirement.
- Knowledge of public health education models, behavior change theories, and primary prevention techniques.
- Knowledge of health education methods and preventative health practices.
- Knowledge of community analysis and survey techniques, needs assessment, and principles of community organization.
- Knowledge of educational tools and use of the media for information dissemination.
- Knowledge of risk/protective factor models.
- Knowledge of Social Determinants of Health.
- Skills to lead discussions and teach large or small groups.
- Skills in computer programs including Google Workspace, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, internet, and email use.
- Skilled in written, verbal, and public communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other agencies, and community leaders.
- Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work well in team situations, meet deadlines, and provide positive customer service.
- Ability to proficiently use computers.
- Ability to write technical reports, develop curriculum, and make effective presentations.
- Ability to be an active member of a team.
- Ability to be self-motivated and self-directed.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Driver License at the time of employment.
- Must be able to provide own transportation to assigned office.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to perform strenuous activities requiring flexibility, stamina, and overall general good health.
- Must have a flexible schedule and be available for work in the late evening, early morning, and weekends as job requires.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening test prior to employment.
- Tobacco CDC Program Manager – Lead development of program goals/objectives, coordinate staff objectives with specific allocated time, monitor contract expenses, assure completion of work plan, and assure completion of reports.
- Diabetes Program Manager – Lead development of program goals/objectives, coordinate staff objectives with specific allocated time, monitor contract expenses, assure completion of work plan, and assure completion of reports.
- Cardiovascular Health Program Manager – Lead development of program goals/objectives, coordinate staff objectives with specific allocated time, monitor contract expenses, and assure completion of work plan, and assure completion of reports.
- Collaborate with community partners to address diabetes prevention & hypertension and link to services available.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate tobacco prevention and control policies, strategies, and cessation services.
- Mobilize partnerships to educate and implement tobacco policies at worksites, community based organizations, multi-unit housing properties, healthcare providers, and other needed areas of the community.
- Assist with linking individuals to tobacco cessation services.
- Inform and educate diverse audiences and populations on diabetes, cardiovascular health, and tobacco prevention education.
- Assist with coordinating the Governing Youth Council (GYC) coalition in the Bear River health district.
