Overview
Housing Services at USU has an opportunity for a Landscaper II. The position performs installation, repair, and maintain of the landscaping and grounds to ensure customer satisfaction around USU Housing facilities. Works as a member of the Grounds and Maintenance team, either with limited direction or under supervision. The Landscaper II reports to a Landscaper Lead. This classification may train and guide student and/or hourly employees.
Responsibilities- Skill in performing routine manual labor.
- Ability to operate landscape maintenance equipment.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment (i.e. backhoe, skid steer)
- Knowledge of plant materials and their cultural requirements.
- Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides used in grounds care and gardening.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems including adjusting clocks, repairing broken lines, wiring and sprinklers.
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Ability to effectively plant and maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, etc.
- Skill in operating snow removal equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance work, such as checking fluid levels, sharpening blades and repairing equipment.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
- Ability to diagnose plant conditions and cultural needs and recommend treatment for problems.
- Knowledge of pesticides.
- Knowledge of irrigation equipment and methods.
- Knowledge of soil types, slope and drainage.
- Must be punctual to work.
Minimum Qualification:
- Two years of experience or an associate degree/technical training in a related field is required.

Advertised SalaryMinimum $38,970 commensurate with experience plus excellent benefits
ADAThis position requires moderate physical effort. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 25 pounds, walking and standing. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting. Employees must adhere to safety precautions and may be required to use protective equipment. Must be able to operate heavy machinery during all seasons of the year.
Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold.
