Position Overview

The Transportation Routing Coordinator is a leadership role within the School Transportation Department. They are responsible for managing all school bus routes, bus stop placement, and public information related to these. This person also serves as the Site Drug and Alcohol Testing Coordinator, ensuring that all staff follow Federal testing requirements. They work with transportation staff, district leadership, school staff, and the public to keep district school buses on schedule, operate efficiently, and meet all state funding criteria.

This position also handles conflicts using district routing software, GPS, time-and-attendance systems, and personal interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organizes and optimizes all school bus routes using the district routing software to ensure compliance with safety, time sequencing, and public posting requirements.
  • Provides route data in accordance with state funding eligibility to maximize the use of available state program funds.
  • Coordinates drug and alcohol testing processes to ensure adherence to all federal requirements.
  • Helps the Transportation Supervisor provide data for department reports, district requests, and public needs, promoting transparency in routing information.
  • Ensures data accuracy to support the department’s parent app, enabling parents to track their students’ school buses in real time.
  • Supports the leave-and-substitute dispatcher in making sure all buses depart on time each school morning.
  • Responds to after-hours patron and school calls to support on‑time school bus service, which often takes students home later than the end of the regular school day.
  • Provides leadership in coordinating necessary Medical Fit for Duty testing for school bus drivers in accordance with Federal DOT medical certification standards.
  • Possess a valid CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements and operate the school bus as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Responsibility

Works under the supervision of the transportation supervisor: in providing safe school bus routes and stops, in managing the drug and alcohol testing program, and in managing the federal medical certification requirement. Supports the operation services for the Cache County and Logan City School Districts.

Work Environment

Work is performed in both office and field environments, including transportation offices, bus yards, bus stop sites, school sites, and district facilities.

Experience

Required:

Job-related experience driving school buses, managing safety at school bus stops, safe practices in student management, and leadership experience.

Preferred:
Experience using the district routing, GPS, Time Management, Camera, conflict resolution, time management, public service

Education

Post-Secondary Education preferred

Advanced Communication Education preferred

Technology Certifications preferred

Relevant job-related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education
