Position OverviewThe Senior Project Engineer applies advanced engineering expertise to plan, coordinate, and manage plant capital projects from initial concept through completion. This role develops accurate and cost‑effective project and electrical estimates while identifying required equipment, materials, and resources to ensure successful execution. The position maintains a strong understanding of applicable codes and regulations to ensure compliance throughout all project phases.
Responsibilities include overseeing the development of layout and detailed drawings to support effective project planning and implementation. The Senior Project Engineer is accountable for achieving project objectives related to cost, schedule, and functionality, while proactively identifying risks and mitigation strategies. Additionally, this role serves as a technical resource, evaluating existing assets and proposed projects to provide guidance on associated risks and benefits.
Key Responsibilities- Provide reasonable and cost‑effective project and electrical estimates
- Develop and maintain an appropriate level of knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
- Evaluate and identify all equipment, materials and other resources required for physical completion of projects
- Oversee the development of layout and detail drawings needed for project management
- Project management achieving predicted cost, timing, and functional outcome
- Technical resource for reviewing existing assets and proposed projects, providing appropriate guidance related to risk and benefit
- Requires in-depth knowledge and experience
- Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions
- Works independently; receives minimal guidance
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience
- Manages Conflict – Handling conflict situations effectively with a minimum of noise
- Communicates Effectively – Deliver multi‑mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required;
Master’s Degree preferred - 5‑10 years’ relevant experience required in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Hands‑on experience working in an ethanol plant environment or similar biofuels operation strongly preferred
- Experience with similar industrial processes such as chemical or other continuous processing environments
- Experience leading or supporting capital projects, including construction and implementation phases
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and oversee external engineering vendors, including reviewing and validating engineering designs, specifications, and deliverables
- Work is performed in a 24x7 ethanol production plant
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
- This position involves frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions, dust, fumes and noise
- Must be willing and able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
