Doctor/Physician
Medical Doctor, Radiologist
Loma Linda University Faculty Medical Group, Department of Radiology, is seeking a Nationally Certified Radiology Physician Assistant (RPA) for a Full‑Time Interventional Radiology opportunity. While 1–3 years of experience in Radiology is preferred, on‑the‑job training in the clinical and procedural nuances of this specialty will be provided upon hiring.
RPAs use state‑of‑the‑art technology, including ultrasound, X‑ray/fluoroscopy, computer tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines to diagnose and treat patients with a variety of ailments, from the routine to the complex and life‑threatening. They work under the close supervision of a licensed interventional radiologist, playing a crucial role in the initial evaluation and triage of new IR consults, assisting interventional radiologists with invasive and non‑invasive procedures, educating patients on upcoming procedures, assisting in follow‑up after procedures, evaluating image quality, and reporting findings to the supervising radiologist.
Graded autonomy is expected, with many RPAs functioning fairly independently after the training period, reporting intermittently to the attending interventional radiologist.
Must be detail oriented. This is needed for obtaining patient information, positioning the body, measuring IV contrast injections accurately, adjusting the machines, and many other tasks that require precision.
Work with compassion, as many patients are concerned about the procedure and its outcomes.
Physical stamina is required, as RPAs often stand on their feet for many hours a day, especially in operating rooms.
Good communication skills are imperative; the RPA explains procedures, addresses patient questions, and helps them understand what to expect.
Ability to work both independently and with a team.
Ability to interpret basic imaging (which will develop over time) and lab tests.
