Overview
The Specialty Nurse Educator is a registered nurse with clinical experience and expertise in a particular area of specialty. The educator provides quality nursing education and training and functions as a clinical expert, role model, mentor, and resource to the clinical team. They collaborate with management, education, and the LIP team to identify and address staff learning needs in a competent and cost-effective manner.
The Specialty Nurse Educator reports to the Director of Staff Education and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and cooperates with other clinical educators and members of the patient care team to enhance the clinical preparation and competence of nurses in specialty areas such as pediatric oncology, cardiac, neonatal care, etc., throughout the hospital. The employee is expected to demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values and to support the organization s strategic plan, the goals and direction of quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Provide quality nursing education and training in a specified area of specialty.
- Serve as a clinical expert, role model, mentor, and resource to the clinical team.
- Collaborate with management, education, and LIP teams to identify and address staff learning needs in a cost-effective manner.
- Work with other clinical educators and patient care team members to enhance clinical preparation and competence in specialty care areas.
- Support the organization s strategic plan and participation in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
- Report to the Director of Staff Education and the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (Assigned on hire – RQI).
- Minimum of five (5) years of acute pediatric clinical experience preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a specified area of nursing practice in pediatrics.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing clinical education to nurses in the particular area of specialty hired to provide.
- Ability to lift thirty (30) pounds without assistance.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Must possess good work ethics and a professional image at all times.
- Knowledge of CMS conditions of participation, CDPH state regulations, CCS, and TJC (hospital, nursing care center, and laboratory) accreditation requirements as applicable to the job.
- Working knowledge of computer and software applications as applicable to the job.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Ability to manage confidential information effectively and appropriately.
