Staff Accountant (Public Accounting Exit Opportunity)

A large, regulated organization in the energy sector (multibillion in annual revenue) is hiring a Staff Accountant to support its core accounting and close function. The environment is structured, deadline‑driven, and SOX‑controlled, with real ownership and clear expectations.

This role reports directly to an Accounting Manager and is well aligned for candidates coming from Big 4 or national public accounting who want to move in‑house without giving up technical rigor.

• Ownership of the close instead of reviewing it
• Direct responsibility for journal entries, reconciliations, and balances
• Public‑company GAAP and SOX rigor without audit hours year‑round
• Predictable hybrid schedule outside of close
• Stable organization with strong internal mobility and long‑term careers

• Monthly and quarterly close execution for assigned areas
• Preparation and posting of journal entries and accruals
• Account reconciliations and balance‑sheet support schedules
• SOX control execution and documentation
• Audit support from the company side
• Internal reporting support and variance follow‑up
• Collaboration with internal partners to resolve accounting issues
• Participation in process improvement and efficiency initiatives
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 2–4 years of public accounting and/or public‑company accounting experience
• Strong grounding in GAAP, close processes, and documentation standards

• CPA or actively pursuing
• Exposure to regulated, utility, SEC, or FERC reporting environments

• Hybrid: 3 days onsite most weeks
• Full onsite presence during close week (first 7 business days each month)
• Base salary range: $70,000–$95,000
• 10% annual bonus
