Assists teachers, students, and parents with interpreting and translating between Ukrainian and English. Serves as a liaison between the native language community and the school to ensure mutual understanding of needs and services.
Qualifications- Ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse students.
- Fluency in Ukrainian and English, with oral and written communication that uses proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Detail‑oriented, thorough, industrious, knowledgeable of school procedures, and experienced in working with students.
- Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and community members.
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Interprets verbal communication and translates written materials to assist students, teachers, and parents.
- Assists teachers in organizing and implementing instruction to improve academic success.
- Administers tests, homework, make‑up work, etc., to develop special strategies for reinforcing student learning.
- Instructs students individually or in groups using lesson activities and assignments.
- Maintains records (forms, student profile cards, attendance records) in compliance with EL program requirements.
- Monitors students in activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Encourages students to develop behaviors and study habits that lead to academic success.
- Consults with teachers, counselors, nurses, attendance office, and administrators as needed.
- Acts as liaison between parents, students, and the school, explaining policies, procedures, support systems, programs, resources, and instructional goals.
- Assists staff in understanding Ukrainian culture and traditions to enhance learning.
- Models positive attitudes and professional behavior for students and staff.
- Attends meetings and staff development programs when requested.
- Supports enforcement of school rules, regulations, and Board policy.
- Performs additional duties assigned by teacher, principal, or district coordinator as permitted by law.
- Bilingual in English and Ukrainian with proficiency in reading, writing, interpreting, and translating.
- Ability to write professional communications.
- Ability to respond to questions from individuals and groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
- Clear and concise communication skills when interacting with others.
- Regular sitting, talking, or hearing.
- Standing, walking, operating duplicating machines and computer equipment; reaching with hands and arms.
- Typing frequent repetitive motions.
- Close vision required; ability to adjust focus and use VDT for extended periods.
- May lift up to 30 pounds.
- Moderate noise level.
- Fast pace of work tasks.
- Primarily at one job site; may attend meetings, conferences, workshops at other sites.
