Position SummaryAssists teachers, students, and parents with interpreting and translating between the native language and English. Serves as a liaison between the native language community and the school in helping each to understand the needs and the services of the school. Performs EL Interpreter Bilingual Aide tasks as assigned by the teacher and approved by the Assistant Director.
Qualifications- Ability to work with linguistically and culturally diverse students.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, both orally and in writing, with proper grammar and vocabulary.
- Detail-oriented, thorough, industrious, with knowledge of school procedures and successful experience working with students.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.
- High School Graduate, or equivalent.
- Interprets verbal and translates written communication for students, teachers, and parents.
- Assists teachers in organizing and implementing instruction to improve students’ academic success.
- Administers tests, homework, make‑up work, etc., to devise special strategies for reinforcing material based on individual students’ needs.
- Instructs students individually or in groups with lesson activities and assignments, modifying activities according to proficiency levels.
- Maintains various records such as forms, student profile cards, attendance records, in compliance with EL program requirements.
- Monitors students in activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Encourages students to exhibit study habits that lead to academic success.
- Consults with teachers, counselors, nurses, attendance office, and administrators as required to convey information regarding student activities and progress.
- Serves as a liaison between parents, students, and the school, explaining policies, procedures, support systems, programs, community resources, and instructional goals.
- Assists staff with understanding the culture and traditions of Spanish‑speaking communities.
- Models positive attitudes and professional behavior in working with students and staff.
- Attends meetings and staff development programs when requested.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
- Performs any duties assigned within scope of employment, as directed by teacher, principal, building coordinator, or district coordinator.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish with proficiency in reading, writing, interpreting, and translation.
- Ability to write professional communications.
- Ability to respond to questions from individuals and groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
- Clear and concise communication skills with other individuals and groups.
- Must sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, operate duplicating machines and computer equipment, reach with hands and arms, and perform repetitive motions such as typing.
- Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus; must withstand long‑term use of video display terminals.
- May occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Work environment noise usually moderate; pace of work tasks fast.
- Work normally at one site; may attend meetings, conferences, or workshops at other sites.
