Summary

The qualified candidate for the long-term substitute role will perform duties and responsibilities to ensure that learning keeps moving forward during a teacher's extended absence.

Qualifications
  • Professional educator's license in the subject area identified.
  • Knowledge of best practices as it relates to supporting all students' ability to learn.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Honors or AP experience preferred.
  • English Endorsed 9-12, preferred experience teaching AP Language and Composition.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instruct students based on subject- or level-specific curriculum; grade assignments and maintain attendance.
  • Supplement lesson plans utilizing interactive technology as appropriate.
  • Supervise and ensure safety of students during classroom hours.
  • Meet with Department Chair on a regular basis and seek mentoring from other departmental staff members.
  • Maintain the highest level of ethical and professional demeanor with students and staff consistent with district policies.
  • May need to participate in parent-teacher conferences and/or school-sponsored professional development.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policy.
  • Maintain student confidentiality.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence, surveys and electronic media.
  • Ability to write professional communications.
  • Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from individuals and groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to maintain current job skills as directed, especially in technology-related activities.
  • Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Student staff duties require sitting, talking, hearing, standing, walking, using computer equipment, reaching with hands and arms, typing.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books occasionally.
  • Work environment typically moderate noise level.
  • Work tasks are performed at a fast pace.
  • Work is usually conducted at one job site, with occasional attendance at meetings, conferences, or workshops at other sites as assigned.
