Assistant Controller

Compensation: $200-215k + discretionary bonus

Our distribution client is seeking an Assistant Controller to support its rapidly expanding corporate accounting function. They are a multi-billion dollar distribution company recently carved out now operating as a private‑equity‑backed, standalone organization. Over the past six months, the company has been building a new corporate finance and accounting team to support its independent operations. This is a full‑time, on‑site role offering the opportunity to make a direct impact in a fast‑evolving environment.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned accounting leader with strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, deep experience managing close cycles and consolidations, and the ability to build structure, processes, and controls in a high‑growth, carve‑out environment.

• Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and regulatory standards.
• Lead and manage monthly and quarterly close across domestic and international business units.
• Direct financial consolidations and reporting, including compliance with external lender and reporting requirements.
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports with exceptional accuracy and transparency.
• Coordinate and manage external audits as the primary liaison, ensuring timely and complete deliverables.
• Conduct technical accounting research and implement new accounting standards and process improvements.
• Provide accounting expertise for complex transactions, supporting decision‑making and accurate reporting.
• Build and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard company assets.
• Identify and execute opportunities to improve accounting processes, technology, automation, and overall efficiency.
• Develop and document accounting policies and procedures to drive consistency across all operations.
• Deliver financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership, including the Controller and CFO.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10+ accounting and finance professionals, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Strong U.S. GAAP expertise, including technical accounting and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and owning close processes.
• Experience with consolidations, audits, and establishing internal controls.

• Public accounting or PE‑backed company experience.
• Experience in distribution, supply chain, or multi‑location businesses.
• Background implementing new systems, process automation, and scalable accounting frameworks.
