St. Margaret Mary Alocoque School is a TK-8 private Catholic elementary school in Lomita, CA. Our mission is to educate and inspire children to achieve their best academic, social, and life skill potential, while instilling in every child a deep and abiding commitment to the principles of Catholic faith.

SMMS is seeking a well‑rounded, energetic, and passionate middle school English Language Arts teacher for grades 6-8 for the  school year. The ideal candidate is team-oriented and willing to collaborate with others to enhance student learning. This role involves creating and implementing a curriculum that inspires curiosity, encourages critical thinking, supports academic rigor for all students, and fosters the spiritual, social, and emotional growth of all students.

Note:

This position may also include Religion and/or Science; the final teaching schedule will consider the candidate’s strengths, in conjunction with the skill sets of the other members of the middle school team.

• Demonstrate a pssion for literature, writing, and middle school education.
• Design and implement engaging, standards-based lesson plans that are aligned with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles curriculum and California Common Core Standards.
• Foster a faith-filled classroom environment that integrates Catholic values and teachings.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the unique social-emotional development of Middle School students.
• Create a positive and respectful classroom environment
• Integrate technology and multimedia into instruction where appropriate
• Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning styles and needs
• Establish positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and Parish staff to create a strong classroom and school community
• Collaborate with the middle school team of teachers and school administration to support student growth and school-wide initiatives
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents and school leadership

• Valid CA teaching credential (or in progress)
• Previous upper elementary/middle school teaching experience preferred
• Practicing Catholic preferred
• Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction
• Strong skills in setting up routines, behavior expectations, and communication to support student success

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
