Job Summary
Para educator – The Lompoc Unified School District is recruiting for positions beginning in the 2025/2026 school year. The posting is open and promotional, with promotional taking precedence.
Responsibilities- Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment.
- Prepare instructional materials and support the implementation of lesson plans, curriculum, and teaching methodologies.
- Provide routine clerical support, including typing, duplicating, filing instructional materials, and maintaining student records.
- Assist students with reading program activities, improve reading and writing measures, provide phonics, vocabulary and comprehension support, and assist with spelling, math and writing exercises.
- Assist with classroom assignments, homework, make‑up work, and projects; adapt activities under teacher direction.
- Monitor student behavior, supervise outdoor, lunch, library and recess activities, and assist with field trips, bus stops, and yard duty.
- Maintain a safe, orderly and clean learning environment.
- Set up and operate classroom and office equipment (computers, audio‑visual equipment, copier, laminator).
- Report observations and incidents, respond to emergency situations, and assist in resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Administer and proctor tests, including CELDT, ADEPT, or others as assigned.
- Attend meetings and in‑services as assigned.
- Graduation from secondary school or equivalent GED.
- Verifiable experience working with school‑age children in an organized setting or learning environment.
- Special Qualifications for Title I sites:
Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education; or obtained an associate’s or higher degree (college level); or passed a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrated knowledge through a formal State or local academic assessment. - Incumbents must meet requirements specified under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Knowledge of child guidance principles, safe classroom practices, basic subjects taught in local schools (arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, reading), basic instructional methods, correct English usage, classroom procedures, operation of standard office and classroom equipment, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and basic record‑keeping techniques.
- Ability to assist with instruction, reinforce instruction to individual or small groups, perform clerical duties, prepare instructional materials, read books to students, follow directions, establish cooperative relationships, communicate effectively, monitor and report student behavior, maintain confidentiality, operate equipment, observe health and safety regulations, and maintain records and files.
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in an examination process that may include written, oral, and performance examinations. Successful candidates must pass all parts of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list. Candidates ranked in the top three on the list may be considered for hire; additional ranks may be considered if multiple vacancies exist.
TestingSchedule
Written test will be held from September 10, 2025 through December 17, 2025, 10:00 am–3:00 pm on Wednesdays (walk‑in basis, no appointment required). Only qualified applicants will receive an email invitation.

- Medical examination may be required; verification of freedom from tuberculosis.
