Student Supervision Aide

Posting is open and promotional with promotional taking precedence. The established Eligibility List will remain in effect for one year. The District has the right to limit the number of eligible which can be reasonably used during the existence of the eligibility list. The provisions of this announcement do not constitute an expressed or implied contract and any provisions contained in this announcement may be modified or revoked without notice.

Location

and Hours

Various school sites. Position for 2:00 to 4:00 hours per day. The eligibility list will be in effect for up to one year and will be used to fill all current and new vacancies during that time period.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise students in cafeterias, lunchrooms, playgrounds, recess duty, restrooms, and other areas assigned by the principal, with particular attention to the health, safety, and conduct of the children involved.
  • Assist students to observe lunchtime and playground courtesies and safety rules.
  • Enforce District and school policies and rules.
  • Report special behavior problems to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student behavior.
  • Provide crossing guard support at assigned intersections.
  • May participate in District professional development opportunities as required to enhance job‑related skills.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
  • Any combination of experience and training equivalent to some experience (paid or volunteer) working with children in an educational or child‑care setting or any combination of training experience that would likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge Of
  • Communicating effectively with administration and students.
  • Effectively dealing with large groups of students.
  • Taking notes and writing short reports (e.g., referrals to the office, incident reports).
  • Basic safety rules and regulations.
  • Basic principles of first aid.
  • Emergency assistance procedures.
  • Techniques used to motivate students and effectively deal with student needs at various age levels.
  • Standards of courtesy to be observed by students.
Ability To
  • Supervise students.
  • Learn and apply with good judgment district and school policies and rules related to student behavior and activities.
  • Maintain order and discipline among students, utilizing effective and appropriate strategies.
  • Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Be a positive role model to students.
  • Handle all matters in a tactful, courteous, and confidential manner.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships.
Application and Selection Process
  • All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the examination process for the position.
  • The examination process may include one or more of the following: written, oral, and performance examination.
  • Candidates must pass all parts of the examination process to be placed on the eligibility list. The final score will determine the candidate's rank on the eligibility list.
  • A candidate in the top three ranks (including tie scores) on the eligibility list may be considered for hire; when there are multiple vacancies in the same job classification, additional ranks will be considered.
  • Open and Promotional examinations are open to applicants inside and outside the Lompoc Unified School District. To qualify for the promotional examination, employees must have permanent status in the Lompoc Unified School District as a classified employee.
  • Promotional Only examinations are open to current Lompoc Unified School District classified employees only. For employees to qualify for the promotional examination, they must have permanent status in the District as a classified employee.
  • Dual Certification examinations are open to all applicants, including current Lompoc Unified School District employees and those from the general public. Dual Certification results are integrated into one eligibility list based on rank.
