Position: Military Base Enrollment Advisor I (Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA)

Location

Onsite at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. Candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the base and be able to work onsite as required.

Position Summary

The Military Base Enrollment Advisor is responsible for the prospective student experience from inquiry to vested as students come to their assigned military base. The Advisor manages a pipeline of potential student inquiries and is responsible for all outbound and inbound communications. This position is also responsible for assisting prospective students in the decision‑making process related to program knowledge, military tuition assistance for active duty, veterans’ benefits, and scholarship information.

The Advisor is trained and has knowledge of all university programs, academic processes, program schedules, program costs, and program estimates. They collaborate with Education Specialist Officers (ESOs) on each base and coordinate with scheduling and faculty to ensure we comply with the Military Base Memorandum of Understandings. They attend base active duty debriefs for transitioning active‑duty service members and base graduations.

Functions
  • Proactively engages prospective students’ inquiries in varying decision‑making stages by telephone, text, and/or email to increase contact with prospective students.
  • Builds rapport with prospective students and assists with the enrollment process from inquiry to the first class start.
  • Documents interactions via Salesforce in notes, status, and activity reports.
  • Proactively manages the “Inquiry to Enrollment” admissions process.
  • Responsible for knowing the policies and all programs within the university and providing accurate information to prospective students.
  • Takes the time with each prospective student to understand their needs and goals and helps them make an informed decision.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in university, college, and program knowledge via training and assessment.
  • Ensures each student is provided with a professional demeanor, engagement, and courtesy to maintain a high level of service.
  • Is a team player by helping others and maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Punctual to student appointments and meetings and on time for assigned schedules.
  • Manages multiple systems to maintain the “student application file” during enrollment.
  • Passes a federal background check and maintains status for DBIDs.
  • Guides students in documents needed for program estimates.
  • Creates program estimates from students’ prior transcripts and meets with students to address degree plans.
  • Enrolls students in a program and works to create a start plan.
  • Develops student schedules, adds and drops classes, and recreates schedules as needed.
  • Addresses any concerns students may have before starting.
  • Presents student orientations for new students via in‑person, phone, and the Internet.
  • Works with the location Education Service Officer to relay information from the Ed office back to NU.
  • May be asked to travel to nearby bases for coverage as needed.
  • Attends Welcome aboard for the base new arrivals.
  • Assists/attends TA orientations.
  • Participates in on‑base events such as Ed fairs, back‑to‑school nights, and base graduations.
  • Works on flexible hours due to events hosted at the base.
  • Participates in on‑base drills such as fire and active shooter drills.
  • Meets deadlines for enrollment and starting classes.
  • Obtains approval for veterans, spouses, and dependents to use the base when required.
  • Ensures all staff are trained in military benefits, including Tuition Assistance, GI Bill benefits, scholarships, and federal and state funding.
  • Ensures compliance within the Department of Defense and Military Base Memorandums of Understandings.
  • Completes required training (Psych Armor and DOD MOU).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Education & Experience:

    A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • 1–2 years of customer service experience required.
  • Experience working on a team and using “call center” software.
  • Education/consultative sales experience preferred.
  • Military affiliation preferred.
