Enlisted Missile And Space Systems Electronic Maintenance

Missile and Space Maintenance specialists are responsible for maintaining two legs of the United States' nuclear triad and are crucial to the Air Force's nuclear deterrence mission. Nuclear deterrence dissuades potential adversaries from initiating nuclear conflict by demonstrating the ability to respond with devastating nuclear force. These specialists maintain the weapon systems required to deliver a thermo-nuclear warhead on-time, and on targets up-and over 6,000 miles away.

Intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and air-launched cruise missiles are crucial components of our nation's nuclear arsenal. It's the job of Missile and Space Systems Electronic Maintenance specialists to maintain, operate and supervise the maintenance of missiles, space lift boosters, payloads, guidance and control systems as well as nuclear command, control and communications systems. These Airmen also monitor, analyze and compile system performance data as well as troubleshoot and test research and development systems and support equipment.

What you'll do

  • Monitor, operate and supervise operation of consoles, fault display panels and checkout equipment
  • Monitor status of missiles, remotely piloted aircraft, boosters, payloads and subsystems
  • Coordinate launch processing or maintenance activities
  • Disassemble, inspect, service and replace components and wiring
  • Design and supervise assembly of research and development systems

  • Technical Training 59 days

  • Status Upon Completion Enlisted Airman with credits earned towards Electronic Systems Technology

Key Things To Consider Requirements

You must meet several requirements before joining the Air Force. These concern your background, overall health and other standards set by the Air Force, Department of Defense and federal law.

  • You must be 17–42 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score.

    * High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year.

    Applicants who are non-graduates or non-alternate credential holders must obtain an AFQT Test score of 65 or higher on the ASVAB

  • 55 Mechanical (M) and 50 Electronics (E)
    • Knowledge of electronic theory, circuitry and schematic diagrams
    • Normal color vision
    • Freedom from fear of heights
    • Completion of a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
    • Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
    • Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment
