Overview
The City of Lompoc is seeking a Fire Chief. Under the direction of the City Administrator, the Fire Chief is the chief executive and operational officer of the Fire Department, reporting directly to the City Administrator. The role is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness and quality of the City’s fire prevention and fire suppression activities and receives direction on administrative policy and major projects.
TypicalQualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science or a closely related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible fire management experience.
- Experience as a Fire Chief is highly desirable.
- Experience as a Fire Marshall or a broad background in building codes, code enforcement, plan review, and fire protection, and/or related experience is desirable.
Candidates must complete a City employment application, submit résumé, copies of professional certificates, and three professional references.
Examination ProcessQualified applicants will be invited for further examination, which may include a formal panel interview, an in-basket and/or written exercise, and a follow‑up interview with the City Administrator.
Selection ProcessSelected candidates undergo a background investigation, live‑scan fingerprinting, and a city‑paid medical exam based on job‑related physical standards. Failure in any part of the examination or selection process will disqualify a candidate from further consideration.
