Health & Safety Manager
Under the general direction of the EHS Director‑USA & Canada, and in alignment with site leadership, the Health and Safety Manager leads Health and Safety programs for the Lompoc operation. This role is responsible for regulatory compliance, risk reduction and continuous improvement in site safety performance. The position is based in Lompoc, California and manages two direct reports.
Location:
On‑Site at our Imerys Facility in Lompoc, CA
- Become a subject matter expert of Imerys’ protocols concerning environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety programs and procedures, and support site interpretation and implementation.
- Oversee the coordination and maintenance of site Industrial Hygiene and Safety programs.
- Maintain a strong field presence and work closely with operations, maintenance, and employees to identify hazards, improve work practices and reinforce site safety expectations.
- Compile, analyze and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents.
- Oversee, prepare, maintain and submit all safety and environmental reports and permits in a timely manner in accordance with Federal, State, and Local H&S regulations.
- Oversee and coordinate all training mandated by MSHA, OSHA, state or local regulatory agencies and provide continuous training for Site Coordinators, Plant Managers, Maintenance Managers, and others.
- Support the development, planning, delivery and review of HS training.
- Lead and participate in site audits and inspections and support the tracking and implementation of corrective actions.
- Facilitate post incident reviews and employee discussions to identify improvement opportunities and strengthen safe work practices.
- Support contractor safety management processes, including onboarding, compliance verification, and field oversight.
- Work closely with peers, Regional and Site Management to develop, implement, measure, and monitor the success of HS in their respective region.
- Manage and maintain the relationship with all applicable regulatory bodies (e.g., county, state, federal).
- Maintain and ensure current working knowledge of Federal, State and local safety, environmental and occupational health regulations (e.g., MSHA, OSHA, and California HS laws).
- Manage workers compensation process, reports, etc. workers in Lompoc.
- Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
- Skilled in supervising, evaluating, training, and motivating employees.
- Strong understanding of Federal and State Safety regulations and maintaining compliance.
- Diligently meet regulatory deadlines.
- Experience improving safety performance through employee engagement, risk reduction, and operational discipline.
- Excels at the development of clear, concise, and effective procedures and work instructions.
- Demonstrated experience with the implementation and sustainment of HS programs.
- Ability to work effectively across site, regional and global teams while supporting HS processes and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage parallel projects with multiple moving pieces independently or with a team.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with operations, maintenance, contractors, and site leadership.
- Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Experience in interacting with and influencing all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required, appropriate technical discipline (such as Environmental, Health, Safety, or related area) preferred. - Minimum Experience:
10 years experience in Safety and Health roles in a mining, manufacturing, or industrial environment. - At least 3 years supervisory experience.
- Professional Licenses: HS certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are beneficial but not required.
