Position Summary:
  • This position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements patient care for inpatients, and outpatients to include Diagnostic Imaging patients.
  • Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice.
  • Remains flexible to changing systems.
  • Supports other nursing areas within the Surgery department by floating when needed after appropriate orientation.
  • Treats patients, families, visitors, peers and physicians with consideration and respect.
  • Works well under stress and with tight deadlines.
  • Communicates concerns appropriately using the established chain of command.

  • Consistently uses C-I-CARE principles when communicating with others.
  • Maintains all principles of confidentiality according to District policy and as required by State and Federal agencies.

  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities within the unit and within the Nursing Department.
  • Completes hospital-wide skills competencies annually.
  • Complies with annual PPD and FIT testing.
  • Maintains responsibility for own professional development.
Position Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of patients after appropriate orientation to each area, preoperative and discharge.
  • Assists with special procedures to include, but not limited to, cardiac dobutamine stress tests, diagnostic imaging procedures, specialty line access and insertion.
  • Assists in procedure with patient assessment, screening, monitoring, medication administration, positioning, patient transportation, discharge, and education.
  • Demonstrates proper handling of pathology specimens per hospital policy.
  • Participates in handling all procedures and equipment that pertains department specialty.
  • Willing to be trained to assist with technical aspects of procedures (handling biopsy forceps, snares, scope handling, and physician assistance).
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Is able to interpret data about the patient's status to identify each patient's age specific needs and to provide the care and supplies needed appropriate to the patient's age group.
  • Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member within the unit and the department.
  • Demonstrates the ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
  • Accepts appropriate supervision.
Essential Functions:
  • The ability to perform all aspects of RN job duties which include standing or walking for prolonged periods of time, bending, gripping, grasping, stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
  • The ability to keyboard and use Word Processing programs.
  • Maintains nursing license following the Scope of Practice for Registered Nursing and any certifications required for competency. May be needed to cross train to other roles for coverage of house supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
  • Accepts appropriate supervision.
  • Other duties as directed.
Position

Qualifications:
  • Education:

    Current California license as an RN.
  • Experience:

    One year relevant clinical experience involving moderate sedation.
  • Certifications:

    BLS, ACLS and PALS required.
  • Skills/Ability:
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills preferred. Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy. Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
