Electrical Utility Technician is a flexibly staffed position allocation. Under supervision, to perform work in the installation, testing, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, monitoring, repair and modification of receiving stations, substations, equipment, devices, and appurtenances associated with the City s Electric and Broadband Utility s infrastructure and facilities, such as electric generation metering equipment, transmission, distribution, telemetering, revenue metering, communications and data systems;

and to perform other specifically related work as required.

Electrical Utility Technician I: $9,730 - $12,306 per month;
Electrical Utility Technician II: $10,432 - $13,202 per month.

Note: May be appointed at either level, depending on candidate s current EUT level and qualifications. If appointed at EUT I level, may be career ladder, at a later date, to the II level, depending on performance and qualifications.

Responsibilities and Duties

Electrical Utility Technician I – Under immediate supervision, positions in this entry-level job class typically perform progressively responsible duties that constitute on-the-job training in all phases of skilled electrical utility work to gain the knowledge and proficiency necessary to acquire journey-level skills. Incumbents in this entry class will have one (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair and testing of electrical equipment as a journey-level electrician or journey-level electrical line worker experience.

Electrical Utility Technician II – Under general supervision, positions in this skilled, journey-level job class perform the full range of a variety of technical, skilled and semi-skilled electrical utility duties with complete technical and working knowledge of all devices, equipment, infrastructure, and appurtenances used by the City s Electric and Broadband Utilities. Level II incumbents may assist, instruct, and provide support to entry-level I incumbents in the performance of duties assigned.

ALLOCATION FACTORS: Complexity of duties; level of technical skill utilized; exercise of independent judgment and decision-making; and consequences of decisions made. These positions are flexibly staffed and incumbents at level I are eligible for consideration of advancement to level II after completion of a minimum of two (2) years in their current assignment and satisfactory performance, attainment and demonstration of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, and/or required certification acquired.

EXAMINATION PROCESS: Based upon screening of the City application, résumé, and responses to supplemental questions, applicants whose qualifications best meet the requirements of the position will be invited to the examination process. This process may include, but is not limited to, written exam, performance exam, and/or panel interview, each of which consists of an evaluation of some of the essential knowledge, skills, abilities, and job-related experience listed below.

Those candidates who pass the examination process are placed on an eligibility list from which the final selection will be made.
