About the OpportunityAre you a strategic finance leader who thrives in a collaborative, mission-driven environment? We are seeking an experienced Comptroller to oversee the full spectrum of financial operations for a respected organization in the public and community services sector. This is an opportunity to play a key leadership role in ensuring financial stewardship, operational excellence, and long-term organizational sustainability.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the organization’s accounting and financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
- Oversee general ledger management, account reconciliations, year-end processes, and the preparation of government and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinate quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with all applicable accounting standards, funding requirements, and organizational policies.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management support to a team of Financial Analysts, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee procurement activities, financial controls, fixed assets, and organizational financial policies to support effective stewardship of resources.
- In partnership with senior leadership, contribute to annual budgeting, financial forecasting, strategic planning, and operational decision-making.
- Provide financial leadership coverage for the senior finance function when required, including presenting financial information to executive stakeholders and governance committees.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience in a complex organizational environment.
- CPA designation (or legacy CA, CMA, or CGA designation) and/or a Master’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of public sector accounting, grant and fund accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, auditing standards, financial analysis, variance reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing finance teams, ideally within a unionized environment.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP or financial management systems.
- Experience with Ministry of Ontario financial reporting and experience working in child welfare considered a strong asset.
