Senior Engineer
The Senior Engineer provides site engineering duties to several projects within the region, including supervising trainees and site engineers. The role involves establishing level and survey control for contracts, setting out detailed works per contract drawings, and ensuring regular checks.
Key Responsibilities- Establish the level and survey control for contracts – hand over to Site Engineers for daily setting out.
- Set out detailed works as per contract drawings and conduct regular checks.
- Be present for critical setting out activities.
- Ensure accurate health and safety and work environment records, and that Site Engineers complete their allocated R’Rs.
- Deliver work safely, without environmental incidents, and at specified quality.
- Assist Site Agent/Sub Agent in developing efficient work methods and techniques.
- Deputize for the Sub/Site Agent when required.
- Handle materials procurement: pre‑start take‑offs, collaborate with PMs, populate procurement schedules.
- Carry out instrumental checks per guidelines.
- Complete quality audit records per procedures and time frames.
- Provide feedback to Site Agent/Sub Agent on corrective actions.
- Compile ITPs & Quality Management Plans, lead for the region.
- Brief ITPs to Site Teams before delivery.
- Ensure availability of resources meeting quality, quantity, and delivery requirements.
- Address resource problems promptly, liaise with Site Agent, report junior engineer progress.
- Maintain accurate records of resources.
- Organise toolbox talks and issue method statements.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships among operatives, staff, clients, contractors, suppliers.
- Attend design meetings supporting PMs.
- Line manager for Engineers, supporting their development.
- Participate in recruitment of new Site Engineers.
- Ensure early engagement with SE on project awards, tender handover, and pre‑commencement meetings.
- Obtain as‑built information, maintain accurate records, and plan handover 2 months before project completion.
- Previous experience setting out on civil engineering projects, including highways, infrastructure, and reinforced concrete.
- Degree/HNC or equivalent in civil engineering.
- CSCS card.
- SMSTS.
- Confined space training.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Ability to manage and deliver projects with minimal guidance.
- Experience running reports and accurate record keeping.
- Effective individual and team work.
- Communication skills with clients, site teams, and operatives.
- Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion.
