OHLEG Quality Assurance Supervisor

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced individual for an OHLEG Quality Assurance Supervisor vacancy in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section - OHLEG. This position will report daily to any of the following BCI locations:
London, Bowling Green, or Richfield. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state's official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies' needs at no cost to the requesting agency.

Under the supervision of the Director of OHLEG, the OHLEG Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees and manages the work of OHLEG Quality Assurance (QA) Specialists. This includes leading the statewide audit and compliance program for the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway and associated criminal justice databases.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervising QA Specialists in conducting OHLEG compliance audits, preparing audit reports, issuing findings, and ensuring all reviews are completed accurately and consistently.
  • Overseeing QA Specialists' activities related to detecting, documenting, and escalating potential misuse of OHLEG systems, including reviewing user activity patterns, approving investigative steps, and ensuring proper coordination with leadership for follow up actions.
  • Ensuring all compliance determinations related to OHLEG and Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS).
  • Providing direction, mentorship, and training to QA Specialists, ensuring they understand current policies, procedures, security requirements, and investigative protocols.
  • Conducting performance evaluations, setting goals for QA staff, addressing performance issues, and ensuring workload balance across the team.
  • Developing standards, documentation, and procedures to ensure statewide consistency in QA audits, compliance checks, misuse investigations, and offender database review practices.
  • Serving as the primary liaison between QA Specialists and the Director of OHLEG, communicating directives, guiding staff on complex cases, and representing OHLEG leadership at meetings and conferences.
  • Organizing, attending, and presenting at countywide meetings to discuss compliance expectations, recurring issues, misuse trends, and best practices for agency users.
  • Responding to complex or confidential inquiries from law enforcement agencies, ensuring proper guidance and problem resolution related to OHLEG access, compliance violations, and system usage concerns.
  • Monitoring statewide compliance trends, identifying risks, recommending policy adjustments, and advising leadership on issues requiring attention or escalation.
  • Ensuring the protection and confidentiality of sensitive system data, including oversight of how QA Specialists handle CJIS restricted information.
  • Coordinating with technical support staff, OHLEG supervisors, and external partners to resolve issues identified through audits or misuse investigations.
  • Ensuring knowledge of the Sex Offender, Arson and Violent Offender databases and registries. Staff may assist with occasional audits of the records for completeness and accuracy.
  • Participating in weekly meetings with OHLEG leadership to report on QA activities, emerging compliance risks, misuse investigations, and recommendations for improvement.
