What You’ll Do
- Administers medication (e.g., oral, intramuscular, and intravenous) and monitors patient medication compliance.
- Performs treatments and assists with nurse’s sick calls.
- Assists with doctor’s sick calls.
- Performs or assists with nursing management of chronic care clinics.
- Responds to emergencies by providing emergency care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Performs subjective and objective assessments of patients.
- Collects vital signs and documents all findings in a timely manner.
- Collects urine and/or other bodily fluid specimens.
- Prepares patients for release or transfer to other facilities (e.g., intrasystem or out to court) by reviewing patient care, transfer summaries, or release summaries.
- Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services in a timely manner.
- Participates in work‑related training and institutional training exercises.
- Provides assistance to other healthcare staff.
- Investigates and documents problem areas or areas of concern.
- Reviews shift reports from preceding shift(s).
- Assists physicians with medical procedures.
- Assumes duties of other nurses during absences.
- Counsels/provides education to patients regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease.
- Participates in quality assurance activities.
- Provides training and work direction to new nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and/or hospital aides.
- Serves as a resource person for other healthcare and security staff regarding healthcare matters.
- Provides orientation and training for new healthcare personnel at the direction of the Nursing Supervisor.
- Serves as the lead clinical authority on site in the absence of the HCA, QIC, medical director, and/or advanced level provider staff.
- Participates in group programming.
- Participates in health and wellness initiatives.
- Performs administrative duties as indicated.
- Attends meetings.
- Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Assumes the duties of shift charge as assigned by the HCA, making shift work assignments and adjustments as necessary.
- Performs or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies.
- Assists ancillary staff as needed to ensure patient care needs are met.
- Current registered professional nursing license in the state of Ohio.
- Proficiency in urgent and emergency care, basic medical procedures, and medical charting.
- Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, problem‑solving, teamwork, and cultural awareness.
- Experience with medication administration, emergency response, and chronic care clinic management.
- Ability to supervise and train nurses, agency nurses, licensed practical nurses, and hospital aides.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records and documenting vital signs and assessments.
Starting pay is approximately $92,000 based on location and shift assignments.
Work Location and ScheduleMadison Correctional Institute, Madison County, Ohio, United States.
Full‑time.
