- Documents patient related care timely within the electronic health record
- Maintains patient medical records
- Administers medication (oral and intramuscular, and intravenous if certified)
- Performs treatments
- Assists with doctor’s sick call
- Assists with chronic care clinic management
- Participates in patient care planning and treatment team activities
- Responds to emergencies
- Provides emergency care and collects patient data
- Collects vital signs and documents findings
- Collects urine and/or body fluid specimens
- May perform venipuncture for laboratory analysis
- Prepares patients for release or transfer, completing summaries as appropriate
- Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services
- Participates in work-related training and institution training exercises
- Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
- Investigates and documents problem areas or concerns
- Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s)
- Assists physicians with medical procedures
- Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
- Observes, documents and supports assistive personnel (nurse aides, psychiatric attendants, patient care assistants)
- Provides patient education on health maintenance and disease prevention
- Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
- Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
- Performs and/or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
- Assists ancillary staff (Health Information Technicians, medical schedulers) to meet patient care needs
- Works overtime as required
