• Provides patient care as directed
• Documents patient related care timely within the electronic health record
• Maintains patient medical records
• Administers medication (oral and intramuscular, and intravenous if certified)
• Performs treatments
• Assists with doctor’s sick call
• Assists with chronic care clinic management
• Participates in patient care planning and treatment team activities
• Responds to emergencies
• Provides emergency care and collects patient data
• Collects vital signs and documents findings
• Collects urine and/or body fluid specimens
• May perform venipuncture for laboratory analysis
• Prepares patients for release or transfer, completing summaries as appropriate
• Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services
• Participates in work-related training and institution training exercises
• Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
• Investigates and documents problem areas or concerns
• Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s)
• Assists physicians with medical procedures
• Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
• Observes, documents and supports assistive personnel (nurse aides, psychiatric attendants, patient care assistants)
• Provides patient education on health maintenance and disease prevention
• Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
• Schedules multidisciplinary team meetings
• Performs and/or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
• Assists ancillary staff (Health Information Technicians, medical schedulers) to meet patient care needs
• Works overtime as required
