Principal Heritage Consultant – London / Cambridge

The Cultural Heritage and Archaeology team is one of the largest heritage consultancies in the country. We work across the UK and Ireland and cover all aspects of the historic environment (archaeology, built heritage, setting and design) throughout the full lifecycle of projects. We provide clients with expert advice on heritage related enquiries that address the management of change in historic environments.

Responsibilities
  • Lead fieldwork projects from planning and consent applications and deliver bespoke archaeological strategies and works for developments and infrastructure.
  • Prepare competitive tenders and design scope and methodology for archaeological fieldwork in accordance with WSP Health and Safety protocols and requirements.
  • Monitor and assure the work of fieldwork subcontractors, both on-site and in the technical review of deliverables, including RAMS.
  • Produce or contribute to archaeological desk-based assessment.
  • Undertake stakeholder, curator and client liaison.
  • Prepare and deliver fieldwork reports and presentations to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, risk management and all relevant legislation.
  • Support business development and marketing opportunities within the team.
Qualifications
  • Experience of archaeological fieldwork project management (project, financial and staff management).
  • Robust knowledge of Irish archaeology and history and full knowledge of the planning process and relevant environmental / heritage legislation and guidance in Ireland.
  • Experience in heritage and planning, master planning, heritage conservation, heritage-led regeneration, recreation and tourism, heritage sustainability master planning, placemaking, multi-disciplinary collaboration and business development.
  • Excellent writing skills, good communicator and team player.
  • Highly motivated, conscientious and efficient approach to work, able to meet deadlines and budget within a busy consultancy environment.
Desired Attributes

Strong awareness of Health and Safety and risk management, especially on fieldwork projects. Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with clients and peers. Drive and imagination to identify and pursue business development and marketing opportunities. Willingness to promote and diversify the team service offering and win work from internal and external clients.

Either London or Cambridge office.
