Hazen and Sawyer is seeking an experienced Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Specialist to join our consulting team supporting UK water utilities and infrastructure clients. This role focuses on advising clients on improving operational performance, optimizing maintenance strategies, and enhancing asset reliability across water and wastewater systems.

You will work across multiple client engagements, delivering practical, data-driven solutions aligned with regulatory expectations and industry’s best practices. The role requires a balance of technical expertise, analytics, stakeholder engagement, and consulting delivery skills.

Key Responsibilities Client Advisory & Delivery
  • Support delivery of consulting engagements for UK water utilities, contractors, and regulators
  • Assess client operations and maintenance practices, identifying gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Develop actionable recommendations and implementation roadmaps
  • Facilitate workshops and stakeholder sessions with clients
Operations & Performance Improvement
  • Analyze operational performance using SCADA, telemetry, and asset data and other available data sources
  • Benchmark client performance against industry standards and best practices
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, resilience, and service outcomes
  • Support development of operational strategies and transformation programs
  • Working with clients to identify key performance indicators and establishing tools for tracking
Maintenance & Asset Management
  • Advise and implement preventive, predictive, and risk-based maintenance strategies
  • Support development of asset management frameworks aligned to ISO 55000
  • Review and optimize CMMS/EAM systems and maintenance processes
  • Apply a strong understanding of foundational asset management principles to support maintenance and capital improvement planning
  • Contribute to asset lifecycle planning and investment prioritization
Required Skills & Experience
  • 7–10 years of experience in the UK water sector (utility, contractor, or consulting)
  • Strong understanding of water and/or wastewater operations and maintenance practices
  • Experience analyzing operational and asset performance data (SCADA, KPIs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with asset management standards (e.g., ISO 55000)
  • Knowledge of UK regulatory environment and AMP cycles
  • Experience with CMMS/EAM systems and maintenance optimization
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and client priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline
  • Professional membership (e.g., CIWEM, ICE, IMechE)
  • Experience in consulting or advisory roles
  • Exposure to digital water solutions (analytics, AI, IoT, GIS)
  • Experience supporting transformation or changing programs
