Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for a Wireman on a Short term Contract, based in London.

Role Summary

To carry out safe, accurate, and high-quality cable glanding and termination works within electrical substations, ensuring all installations meet project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cable Glanding

* Install and secure cable glands for LV, MV, and control cables.

* Prepare cable ends correctly (stripping, armour preparation, bedding removal).

2. Cable Terminating

* Terminate LV and MV power cables.

* Terminate control, protection, and instrumentation cables.

* Connect cables to switch gear, transformers, protection panels, marshalling kiosks, and distribution boards.

* Ensure correct crimping of lugs using calibrated crimping tools.

3. Substation Installation Work

* Install and connect cables to:

* Transformers

* Switchgear panels

* Protection and control panels

* CT/VT panels

* Battery chargers and DC systems

4. Quality & Compliance

* Work in accordance with:

* Project drawings and cable schedules

* Method statements and risk assessments

* Electrical standards (e.g., IEC, BS, or local standards)

5. Health & Safety

* Follow site safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.

* Use appropriate PPE at all times.

Requirements

Essential:

* Recognized electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).

* Proven experience in substation cable glanding and terminating.

* Experience working on LV and MV systems.

* Valid safety certification (e.g., CSCS/ECS card or equivalent).

Desirable:

* Substation experience (11kV / 33kV / 132kV).

* First Aid certification.

* IPAF / PASMA (if working at height required).
