Location: Greater London
Do you have experience of providing rolling stock and fleet strategy expertise, on a complex rail infrastructure and service planning programme?
This consulting opportunity is to support our client, a leading rail organisation, in developing its Rolling Stock Strategy and supporting the production of Depot & Stabling and Servicing & Cleaning Strategies. The consultant will provide specialist technical expertise to enable evidence-based fleet decisions and the delivery of key strategic technical outputs.
The project needs a consultant who has:
- extensive rolling stock and fleet strategy expertise within the UK rail industry
- strong understanding of rail industry structures and stakeholder relationships
- experience developing strategic options using qualitative and quantitative assessment techniques
- the ability to influence senior stakeholders across complex, multi-agency environments
The key services that you will be asked to provide are:
- developing and managing the delivery plan for the Rolling Stock Strategy and supporting technical strategies
- producing and assessing rolling stock scenarios aligned to proposed train service specifications
- defining qualitative and quantitative evaluation criteria to support option appraisal and decision making
- working with financial specialists to develop rolling stock leasing and operating cost models
- engaging internal and external stakeholders to maintain alignment and support the development of the End‑State Depot and Stabling Strategy
Successful consultants will be able to demonstrate:
- significant experience in rolling stock, fleet strategy or rail systems consultancy
- detailed knowledge of UK rail industry structures and stakeholder landscape
- experience supporting complex, multi-disciplinary strategic programmes
- experience undertaking structured option appraisal and evidence‑based decision making
- ability to influence stakeholders across organisational and contractual boundaries
- excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
It will also be advantageous if you have:
- experience working with HS2, Network Rail, Great British Railways or Department for Transport organisations
- experience developing rolling stock financial or commercial models
- previous experience producing strategic technical reports or technical notes for major rail programmes
Approximately 3.5 days per week, with 3 days per week onsite across Derby, London and Birmingham
